Bristol Night Photography
Swansea Night Photography
The images below were photographs that I took for one of my assignments at A2 Level. The aim of this particular assignment was to shoot in the style of a certain photographer, adapt his/her techniques and obtain some strong images. I chose to look at photographer Rut Blees Luxemburg as at the time, night photography was something that, at the time, I had not done before and I really liked her work. These were some of the best images that I captured from this project.
To obtain these images, I took pictures of some of the architecture from many different angles with the camera on a tripod stand and experimented with the shutter speed and ISO as much as was possible on a bridge camera. These are my favourite images from this particular body of work.
Playing With Fire
Another style of photography I decided to experiment with was a combination of night, light and movement photography. I made a bonfire in the backgarden of my old house, set my camera up on a tripod stand and tried a few different methods to see if I could create some interesting shots. Below are some of the results.
To create the above image, I had the camera fixed to a tripod that was able to still rotate and move up and down with the camera still on it. With a long exposure set, I moved the camera from left to right while slowly moving it up and created a flame trail. This was one of the results. It may not be the strongest of images, but it is quite an interesting photo.
With this image, I left the tripod on a stand with a set timer and gave myself 10 seconds to get into position. When the camera started to take the image, I used a flaming log and circled the fire in a circular motion with it creating a whirlwind like effect.
The last two images were taken in a very similar fashion to the whirlwind kind of image, but instead of doing it in a circular motion, my mate and I smashed two sticks together meaning that the ambers created light trails and created an image that looked kind of like an explosion. I prefer the first of these two images as the top of the flames look like they could be some sort of heads, I reckon.
